PuddleMat
Founder's note
From Emma
She can't help it. Here's what finally helped me.
After two years of failed pads, flooded beds, and 4 AM wake-ups, I built the thing I couldn't find anywhere else.

Mabel started having accidents at night around her twelfth birthday.
At first it was once a week — a damp patch on the floor by morning, easy to explain away. By January, it was happening three or four times a night. She'd wake me with a nudge, tail low, eyes searching mine for something I couldn't name. She wasn't confused. She knew. She just couldn't stop it.
Our vet called it urge incontinence. Common in older females. Manageable, she said. We tried Proin. It helped for two months, then stopped. We tried diapers — Mabel walked backward until they fell off. We layered human medical underpads on the floor and the bed. I bought a Mambe waterproof blanket, a Drymate mat, three different washable pads from Amazon. Puppy pads in every size.
I kept a tally at some point, just to see. Five months. Nearly $1,260. Nothing worked.
What I tried before building PuddleMat:
- Dog diapers — Mabel removed them within the hour
- Human medical underpads (Depend, Tranquility) — soaked through by 2 AM
- Mambe waterproof blanket — ammonia smell after three washes
- Drymate pad — stiff surface she refused to lie on
- Disposable puppy pads — leaked at the edges, slid on hardwood, plastic crinkle kept her awake
- Washable pads from Amazon — edge leaks, backing separated after six washes
What I needed didn't exist yet.
I'm a vet nurse. I'm trained to stay calm in hard situations. But there's a particular kind of exhausted that comes from stripping a wet bed at 4 AM while your dog watches from the doorway — tail barely moving, just watching.
I didn't want to give up on her. I also couldn't keep going the way things were going.
So I stopped buying solutions and started thinking like a nurse.
The pad I needed had to be silent — Mabel startled at any crinkle. Soft enough that she'd stay on it all night without shifting. Light-colored, so I could actually monitor her urine color the way my vet kept asking me to. And waterproof all the way to the floor, without any plastic backing or rustle. A pad that soaks through at 4 AM isn't a solution. It's a wet rug.
I found a manufacturing partner who could build what I described. Five layers. Heat-fused edges that don't separate. A silicone grip grid on the underside. And a light inner liner specifically so you can read urine color changes the way a vet would — without sending a sample in.
I called the fabric system HushWeave. The pad I built around it is PuddleMat.
Mabel used the first one for the last fourteen months of her life. She slept through the night. So did I.
What's inside (in plain language)
| Layer |
What it does |
| Whisper Top |
Ultra-soft fleece surface — quiet under paws, gentle on older joints, no plastic crinkle |
| HushCore |
Four-cup absorbent fill — holds a full night's output without soaking through |
| ClearRead |
Cream-colored inner liner — lets you see urine color changes early, the way a vet would ask you to |
| LockSeal |
Heat-fused waterproof barrier — no delamination after 30 washes or after 300 |
| GripFloor |
Silicone grid backing — stays exactly where you put it on hardwood, tile, and laminate |
What other caregivers say
"Three nights in, I actually cried. I slept. Scout is eleven with Cushing's and the Medium covers everything. The fleece is so soft he doesn't even shift off it during the night."
— Donna R. · Scout is 11, Golden Retriever (Georgia)
"I was this close to converting my dining room into a dog room. My husband built a floor ramp the same week I found PuddleMat. I've washed it 22 times. No smell, no warping, no leaks. Still looks new."
— Miriam K. · Biscuit is 13, Dachshund mix (Ohio)
"My boy Hank leg-lifts — so the urine hits the edge of every pad I've ever tried. I went through six brands. The Large PuddleMat is the first one that's actually contained him. I ordered two more the next day."
— Terri M. · Hank is 8, Great Dane (North Carolina)
