WHAT'S INSIDE

Why I built this pad: so you can see the color.

Most reusable pee pads do one thing well, which is soak up liquid. Almost all of them hide the one thing I wanted to see every morning, my dog's urine color. I built PuddleMat around a light interior, ClearRead, so you can spot a change early and call your vet.

That's the main reason it exists. The rest of it is about holding up in a real house with an old dog: a soft, quiet top, fast absorption, a backing that won't peel in the wash, and a base that won't slide. Here's what each part does and the problem it fixes, starting with ClearRead.

Layer 1 of 5

ClearRead Light Liner

What it is. The light layer inside the pad. It's the reason PuddleMat exists, because most reusable pads hide the one thing you'd want to see.

What it does. A light interior shows your dog's urine color clearly. You see it every morning, so you can spot a change early and call your vet. It's a head start, not a diagnosis.

Why it matters. Most reusable pads are dark inside, gray or charcoal or navy, and the color vanishes into them. A light interior means you notice a change in the morning instead of days later.

Layer 2 of 5

Whisper Top

What it is. A soft top that stays quiet under paws and easy on stiff old joints, with no plastic crinkle.

Why it matters. The crinkle of a disposable pad makes a nervous senior hesitate and miss. A quiet, soft surface gives her one less reason to stop short of the spot she meant to use.

Layer 3 of 5

HushCore Absorbent Layer

What it is. The absorbent layer under the top. It pulls liquid down off the surface fast, so it isn't sitting where she stands.

Why it matters. When a pad holds liquid up at the surface, an old dog steps in it on the way back to bed and tracks it down the hall. This pulls it down quickly instead.

Layer 4 of 5

LockSeal Backing

What it is. A sturdy backing that holds together and stays flat through the wash.

Why it matters. Cheap backings peel or bubble after a few hot washes and the pad stops lying flat. This one is made to hold together, so it keeps lying flat where you put it.

Layer 5 of 5

GripFloor Non-Slip Base

What it is. A non-slip base that grips the floor by friction, with no sticky adhesive to leave a mark.

Why it matters. A pad that slides is worse than no pad for a wobbly senior. This one grips hardwood, tile, and LVP, so she stays steady instead of skating across the room.

BRING ONE HOME

One pad. The one I wish I'd had.

PuddleMat exists because I tried a stack of other pads for Bess first, and not one of them did everything I needed. This one does.
